The Role

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the IT Business Relationship Manager’s (BRM) mission is to facilitate adoption of technology in the pursuits of the commercial goals of the organization. Working with IT security, modern office approaches to technology and an advanced technological supporting infrastructure, you will facilitate advancement, enablement, and attainment of company intitatives through technology and IT strategy.

The IT BRM function establishes and maintains a relationship between IT and the lines of business, increasing the value realized from IT projects, investments, and capabilities. He/She is responsible for understanding the business, assisting in the prioritization of projects, ensuring that projects align with the technology roadmap, providing maximum return on investment, and directing IT strategy in support of the overall business strategy. He/She acts as a project manager of IT initiatives, is a key liaison between IT and the business units, and a trusted advisor.

The IT BRM develops and manages the relationship between IT and internal and external teams. For each business group, he/she identifies business requirements and develops related technology strategies that align within the overall business strategy. He/She identifies and leverages IT synergy and potential across business groups.

The IT BRM ensures that the entire team understands the technology solutions, overall solution delivery, and compliance to governance processes, policies, procedures, architecture standards, etc. He/She prepares cost-benefit analyses for projects and assists business stakeholders in prioritizing projects involving IT resources. He/She works with stakeholders and project teams to prioritize requirements for technology provided by the company. The IT BRM is responsible for the IT annual budgeting and planning process for the assigned business groups and tracks IT spend. He/She enables and drives a proactive business-level dialogue and a performance management approach focused on maintaining a customer service culture and delivering value. The IT BRM forms the basis for measuring, communicating, and improving IT organization value, both real and perceived. This drives optimization of the return on the organization’s IT investment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Influences and partners with business units

  • Influences and partners with internal business units to understand corporate strategy.
  • Interacts on a regular basis with leaders ensuring needs are understood and IT updates are communicated on a consistent basis.
  • Reviews IT Statements of Work, clearly articulating the business needs.
  • Ensures IT project management, development, testing, and implementation activities are executed efficiently and effectively.
  • Establishes and maintains productive relationships across all levels within organization and external suppliers.

Identifies IT capabilities required to support the business

  • Possesses an excellent understanding of the business processes and strategies.
  • Collaborates in the development of information management strategies.
  • Develops IT as an integrated part of the business strategy.
  • Translates business requirements into functional requirements.
  • Leads the Corporate IT Governance Committee to ensure user and technical requirements are understood.
  • Escalates issues to IT Governance Committee, as needed.
  • Provides regular status reporting and business insight pertaining to IT activities and initiatives.

Makes recommendations to enhance IT

  • Identifies industry trends and makes recommendations on how to enhance the existing IT and business processes.
  • Maintains an awareness of evolving regulatory, legal, security and economic impacts to the delivery of IT services.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable corporate policies and procedures.

Advocates for business groups within IT

  • Represents the internal business units to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and per defined requirements.
  • Ensures IT technical and help-desk support is delivered as required.

Influence

  1. Ensures compliance with all company IT policies and procedures.
  2. Manages approved IT vendors ensuring compliance with negotiated Service Level Agreements.
  3. Implements IT strategy.
  4. Develops and implements IT management operational processes and related tools.
  5. Determines budget requirements, allocation and optimizes resource allocation.
  6. Drives the operational effectiveness through strategy implementation, technical activities, and processes.

Required Qualifications

Desired education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent managerial experience in Information Technology.
  • A PMP designation is highly desired or substantial project management experience.
  • Five-10 years experience in IT management.
  • Experience successfully managing a project portfolio with projects ranging from $100K-$200K.

The successful candidate is an Information Technology professional with both education and practical experience managing technology in organizations that are experiencing high growth requiring high performance IT capabilities. He/She will be a team leader that empowers technical resources to implement technology to the benefit of the organization and its employees. He/She will have strong communication and facilitation skills, effective in both official languages.

He/She will have a passion for innovative technology adoption and organizational enablement while staying abreast of evolving IT technologies innovations and strategies. The IT BRM will lead the technology support capability of the firm to accelerate and facilitate the objectives of the complimentary lines of business. He/She is action oriented, but cognizant of limitations and obligations, working in a goal-oriented manner, leading through experience and a strong teamwork commitment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication, delivering persuasive and factual messages to a broad scale of stakeholders.
  • Mastery of recognized IT service management frameworks and the Microsoft Azure and Office 365 cloud service platforms.
  • Good influence and negotiating skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with Power BI and SQL data management.
  • Knowledge of the telecom / ISP / satcom value chain.
  • Proven experience and understanding of the complete software life cycle.
