Director, Product Management

Job Purpose

The Director, Product Management is responsible for ensuring the organization’s product market fit, overseeing the overall go-to-market strategy for its solution lineup to deliver a unique value proposition. An expert in value-chain, price modeling, data analysis, establishing & coordinating future omnichannel monetary frameworks, and establishing market requirements, the incumbent is invested external factors shaping the fast-paced 5G ecosystem: i.e. IoT, technology, and satellite environment. This is a multi-disciplinary role that supports both strategic and tactical efforts of existing MSS Products/Services/Devices, guides sales and marketing initiatives, and channel strategy to ensure that amazing products are delivered to Strigo’s customers & target markets.

She/He is accountable to achieve the established objective key results (OKRs) related to Strigo’s revenues, product margins, understands the 7Ps as well as proactively supporting the achievement of sales and marketing objectives. The incumbent will develop and implement best practices in his job scope using the latest tools, technologies and processes. 

Job Level and Scope

The Director, Product Management reports to the VP Business Development. They are a key member of a cross-functional team, mainly Marketing, Market intelligence, Product Development, BSS/OSS, Customer Experience, Finance, and Sales, responsible for successfully building Strigo’s client base across Canada.

They are energetic and engaged organizational leader possessing strong communication, analytical, and reasoning skills.  She/he promotes Strigo’s vision, and is a true ambassador of our Solidarity, Accessibility, Determination values throughout the organization.

Excellent communicator in both English and French languages, the incumbent delivers inspirational, persuasive, factual messages to a broad scale of stakeholders.

Functions and Responsibilities

Securing Product Market Fit

  1. Monitors IoT market trends (use cases, usage trends etc.).
  2. Clearly identifies target market opportunities and recommends adjustments while respecting core business competencies and focus.
  3. Ensures correct product positioning in alignment with Marketing team.
  4. Develop integrated product management plan, related strategies and tactics and ensure alignment with other functions.
  5. Feeds product development’s technical roadmap.
  6. Leverages latest methodologies to identify:
  • Existing market process and outcomes.
  • Established desired outcomes.
  • Clearly communicates product “gap”.
  • Establishes process, means, and requirements for desired market outcome.

Reports on the ongoing optimization of consumer product performance

  1. Identifies and investigates root causes of market performance uptakes and challenges.
  2. Adjusts and improves process / mitigates issues when required.
  3. Monitors/Re-evaluates constantly risks and recommends corrective measures when required.
  4. Supports and feeds the technology and product development team with adjusted baseline when necessary.

Market Segmentation and Target Market

  1. Leverages market intelligence to analyze market segments to guide sales and marketing efforts.
  2. Guides market intelligence to pull actionable data (i.e. User Cases) in line with target groups.
  3. Quantifies and documents target groups.
  4. Measures market share against established benchmarks.

Pricing Strategy, Sales and revenue forecasting process

  1. In line with the corporate goal objectives and governance policies, lead the pricing strategy development.
  2. In collaboration with Finance, share the pricing development and management process for approval.
  3. In collaboration with finance, coordinate ARPU, sales forecast modelling and product performance monitoring.
  4. Support revenue assurance validation from finance requests.

Channel Strategy, Distribution, and monetization

  1. Recommends and owns the direct and indirect channel distribution framework and process – including reverse channel(s).
  2. Presents desired 3rd party ecosystem with clarity and vision.
  3. Identifies prospective channel partners (i.e. key solutions integrators, targeted verticals, etc.).
  4. In line with the corporate goal objectives and governance policies, drives the partner’s compensation and pricing model development and recommendation for target partners.
  5. Outlines and owns the supply chain process.
  6. Ensures products and information flow seamlessly throughout the chain.

Product support, customer service operations and customer experience

  1. Accountable for the customer operations process to ensure optimal customer experience.
  2. Work with internal and external stakeholder to ensure process is properly managed and adhered to.
  3. When required, follows through with product related technical escalations until desired outcome is achieved.
  4. Monitors and collects user inputs to improve further the product cycle.
  5. Monitors and managed inventory volumes.

Authority

  1. The Director, Product Management should lead by example and expertise influencing team vision, behavior, productivity, and professionalism.
  2. The position requires working as a leader within Strigo team members and external partners to support a decision-making approach based on supported facts and sound reasoning.
  3. The incumbent is fully accountable for product management goals and action plan delivery as well as related financial aspects (revenue, margin).
  4. The incumbent works hand-in-hand with the technology/product development team to ensure continual improvement of product and processes.
  5. The position may or may not require direct reports based on evolving business requirements.

Decision Making

  1. Leads 3 of the 4 key pillars product management and go-to-market strategy (Who, Where and How) while playing a key role in influencing the what.
  2. Leads the product pricing development and evolution strategy and tactics.
  3. Selects and prioritizes target segments and partnership opportunities.
  4. Recommends budget requirements and allocation within the job scope and manage approved budget successfully.
  5. Develops and recommends for approval revenue generation strategies, activities, and processes.

Required Qualifications

Education and experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or related Business Degree – or combination of applicable education and experience.
  2. 5+ years of product management experience.
  3. Expert knowledge in the IoT/satcom market(s) to consumers (B2C) & enterprises (B2B).
  4. Proficiency in task management tools.
  5. Competent with Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  6. Bilingual English and French languages is essential.
  7. MBA, B.Eng, and/or post-graduate marketing degrees are considered strong assets.
  8. Financial and data modelling skills considered a strong asset.
  9. Understanding IoT/software ecosystems considered a strong asset.
  10. Based in Greater Montreal area or within reasonable distance for occasional onsite.

  10. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, including strong asset creation skills (typically in PowerPoint.
  11. Willingness to travel.
